Dr. O’s Tips: Wearing a bra less may reduce the risk of breast cancer

I’m not suggesting giving up bras entirely as that’s either uncomfortable or unrealistic for many women for a variety of reasons, but one study found that wearing a bra for 12 or more hours daily significantly increased the risk of developing breast cancer (from 1/52 to 1/7). The proposed theory as to why is that constricting bras restrict detoxification carried out by important lymph nodes located in the arm pit area. If you’re at home, go bra-less, or if you are driving for a while, unclasp it until you arrive at your destination, and never wear a bra to sleep. As an added benefit, another study found that not wearing a bra may help keep breasts appearing more “lifted” over time by allowing their supporting ligaments to maintain their elasticity.
